The Marathon cross country team has had a very successful season. Lead by Coach Murphy who says that he’s “proud of how hard both the boys and girls have worked all season to earn their spot at state.” Everyone is especially proud of the girls team. Including regional champion Jonathan Pitchford, and athletic director, Mr. Lance Martin. This year is the first time in ten years that the girls cross country team has accomplished earning a spot at state. We will be sending off six boys and seven girls to the FSU cross country course in Tallahassee. They departed for their trip November 6, will run the course Saturday, November 9, and will be returning home after they complete the course. This is the first time in Marathon School history having both the boys and girls team attend state together. Due to the fact that the team is so young, it appears as though we will be sending our team to state for years to come!

Special recognition goes out to Jonathan Pitchford who won first place at Regional’s with 17:12.40. Jonathan and his brother, Owen said they feel it is a bitter sweet ending to the season, they look forward to competing again next year for their final season as seniors, but for now they are on to track in the spring. Mikkel Ross also stood out, who as a eight grader placed 9th with a time of 24:44.30. Overall, Marathon placed 6th with an average time of 20:26. Way to go Dolphins!
