Is Social Media Saving Users From Social Distancing?
by Ranisha Charles
A majority of the social media platforms have rocketed in user activity due to COVID-19. Even before the Coronavirus, Instagram had 1 billion monthly active users and more than 500 million of them use the platform everyday as of 2018. Since everyone is stuck at home due to lock downs all over the world, they are taking advantage of this excess time on different apps.
Apps such as TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and more are being used more than ever to bring people together. Commenting allows users to communicate to people from all over the world. Tik Tok is a great app for learning new dances and making new crafts. Snapchat is an app that allows you to see your friends and families daily activity by maintaining streaks and watching their snap stories. Facebook is a digital platform that allows you to watch tutorials and communicate with friends online. Instagram allows you to post updates by uploading photographs on a platform for various users to see.
“Truthfully I don’t know what I would do without the internet these days.” Junior Isabella Pis told me over the phone. Isabella and many others are using this time to learn new internet crazes, crafts and dances. This allows users to keep their minds and their bodies busy in this time of isolation.
